Emma’s door in the “Once Upon a Time” pilot

A lot of people are wondering what was written on Emma’s door.

Last night, @OnceABC (the official Twitter account for the show) tweeted:

Emma’s door in the pilot says “to cast a spell.” It was actually on the door of the set they used so they left it.

It looks like it says a lot more than that though. Maybe these are the complete instructions for casting that spell?

LOST shout-outs in “Once Upon a Time” pilot episode

Here’s what I noticed: The clock in the square was stuck at 8:15, the number on Henry’s door was 108, and there was a close-up of Emma’s eye opening (when she was in jail) that was reminiscent of Jack’s. The sound effects right before breaking for commercials were similar to LOST’s. Emma’s last name, Swan, could be a reference to the Swan Station, and near the end of the episode, right after Henry’s mean adoptive Mom told Emma to get out of town, there was a very quick shot, upstairs in Henry’s room, of a swan on some kind of screen (see the picture below). Anyone notice anything else? [Editing to add]: Also, the curse looked like the Smoke Monster.

“Once Upon a Time” is pushing the LOST connection hard

Update 10/24/11: If you are looking for screencaps of the LOST references in the pilot episode of Once Upon a Time, those are here: LOST shout-outs in “Once Upon a Time”

—————
original August 7 post:

I had a startling moment this evening. I was sitting in front of the TV, remote in hand, flipping quickly through the channels — and all of a sudden, the word “LOST” flashed on the screen, in white letters on a black background — followed by the iconic shot of Jack’s eye, opening.

WTF? I thought.

It turned out to be the last few seconds of an ad for “Once Upon a Time.” I had flipped to the channel at the exact moment the word “LOST” appeared on the screen and hadn’t seen the part that came right before, which was “FROM THE WRITERS OF …”

The connection, which “Once Upon a Time” is milking for all it’s worth, is that LOST writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are the producers of the new show.

I’m leery of comparisons to LOST, especially because “Once Upon a Time” seems so different — and because previous such comparisons (FlashFoward, The Event), fell flat. I’m definitely interested enough to check out “Once Upon,” though, when it starts — which is actually not for a while, considering that they are already hyping it so intensely. The pilot airs on Sunday, October 23.

Here’s the promo that had startled me:

More new projects for LOST alum

Jeremy Davis as Daniel Faraday

Here are a couple more recently-announced new projects, one involving a LOST actor, and the other LOST producers. (via sl-LOST)

Jeremy Davies (Daniel Faraday) will be joining the Season 2 cast of FX’s Justified, playing a recurring role as the Marshall’s nemesis. The new season starts in February, 2011. (via Hollywood Reporter)

I’ve never seen Justified, so I have no opinion on this. Has anyone seen it? Is it good?

LOST’s executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have created a new show called Once Upon a Time that will be on ABC. The starting date has apparently not yet been announced.

According to Variety, it’s a modern take on fairy tales, a mix of science fiction, fantasy, and mystery, with a female protagonist from a “unique” background.

Despite the fairy tale premise, show will have a strong human emotional center. Similar to “Lost,” there will be a large ensemble.

Sounds intriguing.

Horowitz and Kitsis came up with the idea seven years ago, before getting involved in LOST, and then put it on the back burner until LOST was over.

Bringing even more LOST flavor to the project, Damon Lindelof will consult on the show! (I just hope he doesn’t write the ending.) (Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I’m actually excited about this one — it sounds like it could be a winner, especially if they can develop the ensemble concept even half as well as they did on LOST.)
