Films with LOST alumni Black Friday week still on sale

Update 11/30/2011 — I just checked the prices, and even though Black Friday is over, most of the items I listed here are now selling for less than they were during Black Friday week. The Big Lebowski, for example, is now only $6.99, and the first season of Fringe is only $14.99. Maybe it’s a Cyber Monday week thing, or maybe the pricing is just random. Whatever the reason, you can find even better bargains now.

The LOST DVDs, while they weren’t originally on Amazon’s Black Friday list, have also come down a little in price — Lost: The Complete Collection is $137.49, which is 40% off the list price and less than what it was selling for last week.

Amazon is having a big Black Friday week sale that is going on all week, starting today, Monday, November 21, 2011. I looked through the virtual bins, and found several items featuring LOST actors that could make great gifts (or to give to yourself).


Lance Reddick had an all-too-brief role in LOST as the mysterious and creepy Matthew Abaddon. Here he is visiting Hurley in the mental hospital (this scene is in LOST episode 4×01 The Beginning of the End). I love this scene — it’s one of my favorite LOST scenes — it’s the kind of thing that LOST did so well, did so much better than any other show. At the end of the scene, I had chills in the back of my neck. New: Polar bear bobble head

The LOST polar bear got his own bobble head, complete with fishbiscuit. His head is huge!

My first impression was “Oh, that’s kind of cute.” My second thought was, “Actually, it’s kind of creepy.” I guess it’s both — creepy in a cute kind of way.

New LOST bobble heads — Sawyer, Desmond, Jack, and Dr. Arzt

LOST may be long over, but new products keep on coming.

Four new bobble heads from Bif Bang Pow! are available for pre-order — although at this point, it looks like they won’t actually be shipped until June, 2011.

Lost Sawyer Bobble Head

The Sawyer bobble head has our nickname-loving hero wearing a shirt (alas!) and a jacket. For some reason, he is holding a gun — I’m not sure what scene this is referencing. He is also holding the letter that played such a poignant role in Season 1.

Lost Jack Shephard Bobble Head

The Jack Shephard bobble head is posing with Vincent the dog — an odd choice, in my opinion, especially since Jack’s two iconic scenes with Vincent involve Jack lying flat on his back in the jungle, a position which wouldn’t work for a bobble head, as it would interfere with the bobbling. ;-)

Besides, whenever I see Vincent, I think, “Where’s Waaaaaaaaaalt?”

Also, is it my imagination, or is Vincent unusually small here?

The bobble head is meant to evoke the Series Pilot — it has Jack wearing a suit, with a bit of the wreckage of Flight 815 on the ground behind him. He’s also got some sexy stubble. In fact, he looks sexier as a bobble head than he did in the series. (Yes, as a Sawyer fan I’m biased, but it’s true!)

Lost Desmond Hume Bobble Head

The Desmond Hume bobble head shows the Season 2 Desmond, wearing a Dharma jumpsuit and standing by the Swan Station computer, where he is, presumably, about to type in the infamous numbers.

Lost Dr. Leslie Arzt Bobble Head

Last, but not least, is what I think is the best bobble head of the bunch — Dr. Leslie Arzt holding a stick of dynamite, about to blow himelf up — a scene which led to one of Hurley’s greatest lines ever.

Buying a gift for someone who (gasp) has never watched LOST? Use this gift-giving occasion to recruit a new member into the secret cult of LOST.

The Moonies used flowers. Our methods are more sophisticated:

First, your victims, um future fellow travelers, will need a complete set of all the LOST DVDs for Seasons 1 to 5.

Lost Hydra MugNext, you must provide them with an continuous supply of coffee, so that they stay awake around the clock, doing nothing but watching LOST LOST LOST, until all memories of the outside world fade away. Give them an attractive Hydra mug, and keep topping it off with fresh hot caffeine-laden beverages. Sleep deprivation makes resistance melt away.

Next provide them with a LOST Soundtrack CD so that if they ever leave their perch in front of the TV, they can remain immersed in the world of LOST. Twenty-four/seven saturation is the key to creating loyal cult members.

Help them understand what they are watching. Messages from the Island has the best interviews, articles, photos, and art from the official LOST magazine, covering the first two seasons of the show. Finding LOST: The Unofficial Guide by blogger Nikki Stafford will guide them even deeper along the sacred path. Finally, Lost Ate My Life by Jon Lachonis (blogger DocArtz) and Amy “hijinx” Johnston will give them a glimpse of their glorious future.

The mural, also known as the hatch painting, was painted by executive producer and director Jack Bender. Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond Hume) got rave reviews for playing Jesus Christ in the 2003 movie Gospel of John, his first major film role. Before then he had been primarily a stage actor. Another question on the Lost U. placement test referred to the 15th century painting “The Baptism of Christ,” created by Andrea del Verrocchio with assistance from a young Leonardo da Vinci. In episode 1×12 Fire + Water, Charlie had a dream where Claire and his mother were the angels that appear on the left side of the painting, and Hurley was John the Baptist. You can buy a 13″ x 19″ poster of the painting, now on sale  for only one penny (plus shipping).

If your LOST-fan gift recipients have seen the amazing Season 1 British promo created by wildly inventive photographer David LaChapelle, they might enjoy seeing some of his other work.
