There may be a LOST spin-off in the future, Carlton Cuse says

Carlton Cuse, speaking in an event in Madrid, said they weren’t planning on doing a spin-off “right now,” and they “have no plans now for a spin-off,” but “two years from now, maybe some bright idea will occur to us, and we’ll change our minds about whether there’s a possibility of something else to be done in the world, but for now, there are no plans.”

Notice how many times he says there are no plans now. He’s definitely keeping his options open.

I seem to remember Darlton saying there would never be any kind of a LOST sequel or movie, but then again, they also said the show wasn’t going to be about purgatory and that the ending would not disappoint. (What, me still bitter? Ha.)

Anyway, Carlton goes on to say, “Walt Disney Company, they own the LOST franchise, and it’s very possible they will decide to move forward with a new TV show or movie under the LOST ‘brand,’ and that’s totally their prerogative.”

LOST cast members and Darlton reunion on October 19, 2010

Michael didn't get to go to Heaven, but Harold Perrineau is coming back

Jeff Jensen at EW’s PopWatch is reporting that on October 19 at 9:00 PM on Spike TV’s Scream Awards, there will be a special tribute to LOST that will bring together cast members and producers. So far, the following are confirmed: Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond), Harold Perrineau (Michael), Carlton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof, with more expected to show up.

Here’s a promo, featuring Dr. Edward Halliwax, aka Pierre Chang, done in the style of a Dharma Orientation film:

Damon Lindelof talks about the LOST ending and the auction

In this interview conducted a few days ago (looks like it’s at a pre-Emmy event), LOST writer Damon Lindelof talks about the Finale. Unfortunately, he doesn’t say anything that would give us new insights. He’s responding to a question about whether he feels frustrated when people misinterpret the ending to mean that the LOST-ies were dead all along, and he gives a generic answer about how different people will interpret the show in different ways.

He says he wished that fans who didn’t have the money to buy things at the auction could have had a chance to get a piece of the show, which was a nice thing to say. He himself was outbid on some auction items.

He’s working on the Star Trek sequel and “kicking around” some ideas about what to do next.

Michael Emerson on The New Man in Charge (the new LOST feature-ette)

A sneak peek is available for the much-anticipated special feature that will be in the Season 6 and Complete Collection DVD sets. The feature tells what happens to Hurley and Ben after they take over the job of guardians of the Island.

The entire video, which runs about 12 minutes, was leaked to YouTube earlier today, but the studio quickly pulled it down. The controversy that arose after the finale appears to be carrying over to the new feature-ette, which is said to answer some of the remaining unanswered questions, but leave others still hanging. One viewer, for example, who got a chance to see the whole video said, “After watching the full thing, I can tell you that it’s perfunctory and about tying up loose ends (although it still doesn’t manage to get them all).”

Damon Lindelof tweeted, “I’m so glad we made ‘The New Man in Charge.’ I was starting to miss getting yelled at.” That made the top tweet list, with over 100 retweets — presumably a lot more than 100, but 100 is where Twitter stops counting.

My feeling is that at this point, I’ve long since given up on ever getting any sense of resolution. Since I no longer have any expectations, I can’t be disappointed, at least when it comes to any lack of meaningful answers. I do think the opportunity to see Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia reprise their roles will be a treat.

Here’s a clip of Michael Emerson, on a trip in June to his hometown in Iowa, casually sitting on the edge of a stage, talking about the feature, which, he says, he was “actually more excited to film than the finale.” Hmmm. I wonder if he is trying to tell us something. (The video clip was filmed by jshbckr, who also asked the question that Emerson is responding to):

As for the sneak peek itself, the embedding has been disabled, but you can watch it here: The New Man in Charge sneak peek.

Vilcek Foundation LOST exhibit in NYC closes on Saturday, June 5, 2010

An organization called the Vilcek Foundation, which honors foreign-born artists and scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the United States, has been running an exhibit of LOST props and images, with a unique focus on immigrant and first-generation contributors to the show.

The exhibit opened on May 20, and will have its last day this Saturday, June 5. I’m going to try to go before it closes, since I’m in New York now.

For photographs of the exhibit and visitor comments, see the Foundation’s Facebook page.

Here’s a video made on opening night, when Jorge Garcia, Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse, and Zuleikha Robinson showed up:

It looks like they have a lot of cool stuff there. I’ll try to take some of my usual out-of-focus pictures.

Location and hours:

Vilcek Foundation

LOST ending kills Kermit

Ha, ha, ha I know just how he feels.

I just found this, but it must have been shown shortly before the finale aired (ah, back in my days of innocence), as a teaser.

And speaking of videos that I missed, here’s the last of the official video podcasts, also from shortly before the finale aired, which has various writers and producers talking about how they feel about the show being over:

The last official ABC LOST audio podcast

In the last (so sad!) official audio podcast, Damon and Carlton talk about listening to the scoring of the music for the finale, the polarized fan reaction to Across the Sea, “this is what answers look like,” “every question will lead to another question,” that they just did a DVD commentary for Across the Sea which will explain why they made the decisions they did for that episode, and the alternate endings that will be on the post-Finale Jimmy Kimmel show.

They say that they are done with the mythology — Across the Sea was the last of it. From now on, it’s going to be all about the characters. Damon said “Everyone you know and love is going to feature prominently in the next three-and-a-half hours of the show.”

Damon mentions how Across the Sea was a departure because it was about a bad Mommy when so much of the show before had been about bad Daddies. He says that one of their jokey titles for the episode had been “I’ll Just Sit Here in the Dark.” Ha!

They answer (and sometimes sidestep) viewer questions of varying seriousness: What did Locke say when he was unconscious in the sideways world? How could Jacob kill his brother if they were unable to hurt each other? (The answer was that he didn’t hurt him directly.) Did Smokey kill the author of “Bad Twin”? Is the water in the pool in the temple the same as the water in the cave that Jacob is protecting? Was the tortoise on the beach an incarnation of Vincent? Was the drawstring in the last episode an anachronism? Do Damon and Carlton secretly hate each other? What is their favorite podcast moment?

Great podcast, worth listening to: May 14, 2010 official audio podcast
